Dear members,

With the new update, you can now submit your own tapes. I've already seen a few submissions come in, and I want to thank everyone for their contributions and effort in improving our database.

I'm not yet sure what to do about different lengths of the same tape. Currently, I think a model should appear only once, for example TDK-S AX 1992, with one listing covering all lengths. I might add an option later where you can select the length you own on the tape page.

I know some tapes are already listed with multiple lengths in the database, while others aren't. I think for new listenings this should be handled consistently, either for every tape or for none.

If we listed every type with every length, the database would grow to over 10,000 tapes. That's fine in itself, but very time-consuming, and I'm not even sure we'd be able to find images for all of them. So I think one listing per tape type should be enough.

What's your opinion on this?

Over the past few days I have rolled out a number of important updates. Here is a quick overview of what is new.

-Improved filters

The catalog filters have been redesigned to be cleaner and less cluttered. On mobile they now use dropdown menus, making it easy to search on the go.

-Submitting tapes to the catalog

Can't find a tape? Search for it in the catalog and if nothing comes up, a button will appear at the bottom to submit it. You can upload a photo and crop it directly in your browser. Please read the requirements listed in the form carefully; your submission will be reviewed before it goes live.

-Notifications

A new notification system has been added. You will now receive alerts for likes and comments on your Tapebook posts, incoming friend requests, and new private messages.

With these updates, CassetteCatalog has taken another step forward in both maturity and ease of use. If you have any questions or run into anything, feel free to check the Help Center.

A 1985 Walkman Professional with a 1989 type I Walkman tape!

Damn ... I bought this one perfectly mint, but something sharp in my dashboard cabinet ruined it during a 20 minute drive :(

First thank you for this amazing site which is very easy to use! Great place to get an overview of all the cassettes i've collected over the decades.

In the photo you can see an extremely rare cassette from Japan from a brand called Summon. It was included in the sale of a TDK Alinamin V Drink cassette. Looking at this Summon the J-card is equal or very similar to that of a '88 TDK D.

I put them side by side and can't see any difference, also the Summon has the same geometrac color scheme of the TDK '88 series Shell of this cassete is transparant but not the same as any TDK, checked against several incl. TDK D True Mech.

Tape itself i can't check since it is still sealed, but looks like a well made TDK clone.

No doubt a ton of work went into developing this but THANK YOU! I love how I can organize and see my collection in one spot. Looking forward to seeing the user base grow. Here is a pic of a couple of Denon Type IVs I got this week in beautiful shape with their overwrap.

This week I am busy building CassetteCatalog. The site is still in development. We will finetune the database soon to fix some type mismatches !
